Aim
The aim of this module is to develop knowledge of fundamental concepts in cancer care in order for the beginning specialist cancer nurse to demonstrate competence across all domains of practice.This module focuses specifically on developing an understanding of the fundamental concepts associated with biology of cancer and their implications for nursing practice.
Learning objectives
On completion of this module, you should be able to:
- Describe the underlying mechanisms associated with the development of common cancers.
- Explain the pathophysiological mechanisms underpinning signs and symptoms associated with diagnosis and progression of cancer.
- Identify strategies to provide information, education and support to people undergoing investigation of symptoms suggestive of cancer.
- Explain the role of various diagnostic tests for key cancers relevant to clinical populations in your practice setting.
